Incremental Semantic Analysis and Overload Resolution for ADA (Registered Trademark). Phase 1; Final Report

摘要

The problem of incremental overload resolution has been the key impediment to the development of incremental compilers and semantic editors for Ada and other modern programming languages appropriate for large-scale software development. The objective of this effort was to develop, analyze, and measure a high-performance algorithm for incremental overload resolution. Such an algorithm was developed and the feasibility of combining it with other incremental compiler technologies in an integrated software development environment was demonstrated. The research also identified several important heuristics for improving the expected performance of the algorithm when applied to real programs. In combination with other incremental technologies, this algorithm can dramatically reduce the time for the edit-compile-link cycle in the maintenance of very large software applications.
