Protonation of Anion: Radicals (and Dianions) of Some Aromatic Compounds: Electrochemical Studies

Electrochemical measurements were carried out on nitroaromatic compounds, 1,2-, 1,3- and 1,4-dinitrobenzene, 2,4-dinitrotoluene, 2,4,6-trinitroluene, 2,4-dinitroaniline and 1,Cl-2,4-dinitrobenzene. These compounds were studied by the triangular wave cyclic voltammetry, using dimethylformamide as solvent. Homogeneous rate constants for the protonation of anion of the above nitroaromatics were calculated using Nicholson and Shain equation. Heterogeneous electron transfer rate constants were calculated from digital simulation. Disproportionation constants were calculated from the difference of half-wave potentials. Thermodynamic parameters Delta H, Delta G and Delta S and activation parameters Ea, Delta G*, Delta H* and Delta S* were also calculated.
