Survey of Supply/Demand Relationships for Japanese Technical Information in the United States: The Field of Advanced Ceramics Research and Development

In conformance with the Japanese Technical Literature Act of 1986, a significant level of effort has been made by government agencies and commercial and not-for-profit information providers to acquire and disseminate Japanese technical information. The survey described in the report was undertaken to determine why the demand from users has lagged behind supply. Because the survey is limited to the field of advanced ceramics, its results cannot be freely extrapolated to other fields. However, the responses do provide a snapshot view of current U.S. efforts to use Japanese information and encapsulate some of the challenges faced by providers as well as users.
