The MW Manufacturing (Domino Salvage) site was used during the 1960s and 1970s for the mechanical and chemical recovery of copper from scrap wire. Five acres of the site consist of processed and unprocessed piles of wire and wire insulation. The environmental contamination on-site consists of lead, perchloroethylene, trichloroethylene, vinyl chloride, methylene chloride, and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene in groundwater; vinyl chloride and trichloroethylene in surface water; vinyl chloride in lagoon water; and trichloroethylene, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, and benzene in soil and sediment. The site is considered to be of potential public health concern because of the risk to human health caused by the possibility of exposure to hazardous substances via contaminated groundwater, surface water, soil/sediment, and airborne particulates and vapors.
