The pool type liquid metal fast breeder reactor (LMFBR) reactor vessel contains many structures and a large amount of liquid sodium, in addition to being a thin shell structure with large diameter. Therefore, the fluid-structure interaction will become predominant, and should be considered for the seismic design of pool type LMFBRs. In the study, the fluid-structure interaction problems of the reactor vessel which has a bottom support arrangement as its core support system were investigated as well as the sloshing characteristics in the reactor vessel. The seismic response characteristics of the reactor vessel was studied experimentally and analytically using 3-D FEM code which took into account the fluid-structure interaction.
