Potential Effects of OCS Oil and Gas Exploration and Development on Pacific Northwest Indian Tribes: Final Technical Report

The report (1) reviews treaties and laws applicable to Pacific Northwest Indian fishing and environmental rights; (2) describes the contemporary economic, social, and cultural uses and the significance of marine resources for sixteen Pacific Northwest Indian tribes; (3) identifies the linkages between Indian marine resource uses and possible Lease Sale 132 oil and gas development; and (4) discusses the possible positive and negative effects of OCS oil and gas development on specific tribes. The information was obtained from interviews with a wide range of tribal officials and tribal members and from a variety of tribal, state and federal statistical sources.
