Preliminary Tank Tests with Planing-Tail Seaplane Hulls

Preliminary tests were made with simplified models of two types of hulls that differ considerably from conventional types. In both types, there is a single main planing surface that is combined with after-planing surfaces placed directly below aerodynamic tail surfaces. It was concluded that hulls with planing tails have high trims at rest, have less room for useful load aft of center of gravity than conventional hulls, and introduce restrictions on types of tail surfaces that may be used.
