A numerical code has been developed which allows the treatment of very complicated illumination geometry of the pumping cavity of solid-state lasers by means of linear flash lamps using Monte Carlo simulation. A compromise has been reached between the request of stochastic independence of the events and the need to keep calculation times reasonably low, by using a ray-tracing procedure based on graph technique. In this way, certain specific effects, such as refraction caused by cooling fluids and the scattering due to the finishing (polished or ground) of the surface, can be analyzed in greater detail than has previously been possible. Some examples are given in the text.
