SOME CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE APPLICATION OF TITANIUM ALLOYS IN COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT

This report presents a detailed account of titanium alloy applications for commercial aircraft and some of the material properties of interest for fail-safe and safe-life design. Properties discussed include static strength, creep strength low-cycle and high-cycle fatigue strength, fatigue crack propagation resistance, residual static strength, fracture toughness, hot salt and aqueous stress corrosion resistance. Data have been compiled for high-cycle fatigue strength under axial loading, fracture toughness (KIC ) and stress corrosion resistance (KI800 ) in 3.5 1° aqueous NaCl.
