Project Noordwijk. Part 3: The Radar Backscatter Coefficient gamma as Measured at Platform Noordwijk and Comparison with Other Data

Measurements of the radar backscatter coefficient gamma (sigma deg) that were made at platform Noordwijk are analyzed and compared with other data. A fair agreement is found with the data that was obtained by other investigators who were working on this platform. The backscatter coefficient can now be given with a reasonable accuracy as a function of grazing angle and wind speed. Upwind/downwind results, respectively, upwind/crosswind and downwind/crosswind ratios, are given together with gamma sub vv/gamma sug hh for the wind directions.
