Bezout Domains, Elementary Divisor Rings, and Pole Assignability

The question of pole assignability property of Bezout domains was stressed. A characterization of Bezout domains with pole assignability property is given, extending a previous result of Bumby, Sontag, Sussman and Vasconcelos. Finally, non semi-quasilocal Bezout domains of arbitrary dimension with pole assignability property indicate that dimension is not an important issue in this problem.
