摘要

The detectability of defects by thermal nondestructive testing is examined theoretically. Calculations were performed for heat flow through a material of rectangular cross section assumed to be of infinite length in one direction and containing a linear defect of constant cross section running down its length. The case of an instantaneous temperature rise over an entire surface of the specimen is considered and the relative advantages of one sided and two sided testing are compared. Distortions in the temperature distribution when the defect lies close to an edge of the specimen are studied.
