Stochastic Method in Hydraulic Design of Open Channels

摘要

A stochastic method for hydraulic design in open channels, based on the concept of reliability of discharge is proposed. The classical method of certainty is used to calculate all the unknown hydraulic factors in the discharge function. For a given expectation of a really occurred discharge and coefficient of variation of a discharge, the designed discharge/probability of designed discharge (G) curve can be plotted, giving a concept referring to the probability of the really occurred discharge. If the calculated G is too small to satisfy the demand of design, it can be improved through enlargement of the cross section.
