Heat transfer from the ground into cold, dense gas was studied by releasing a continuous gas plume over aluminum, polystyrene, and glass floors. The cloud was photographed, recorded on video, and temperature was measured at varying distances from the source. An atmospheric boundary layer simulation representing a 1:250 scale with a roughness length of 0.01m was produced. Wind speeds varied from 0 to 1.8m/sec, although above 0.6m/sec the clouds were not geometrically similar to full scale dense gas releases. The influence of source diameter on cloud shape was studied. No conclusive results are obtained.
