Gaussian Elimination Algorithms on a Vector Computer

Algorithms for the triangular factorization of square matrices are classified. These factorizations are used for the solution of a linear system. Criteria for optimal algorithms on vector computers are given and comparative experiments in FORTRAN 77 with FORTRAN 200 extensions for the Cyber 205 are reported. The FORTRAN 200 application is quicker.
