Thermospheric Winds Observed by OI6300A Doppler Shifts at 23 Deg S in the Brazilian Sector

Thermospheric neutral wind and temperature observations measuring OI6300A Doppler shift and broadening by means of a Fabry-Perot interferometer were started at Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil, in February 1984. Preliminary results in the Doppler shift measurements carried on June-July 1984 show dominant zonal (eastward) winds of about 150 m/sec in the late evening, decreasing to zero around midnight. No significant meridional wind was detected during the period.
