An environment requirement specification for space equipment (unit level test verification) was derived from mechanical test data evaluation. Standard mechanical test specifications for space units to be launched on Ariane-4 or on the shuttle are needed to realize program cost savings. European specifications for sine and random testing at unit level based on a statistical analysis using test data obtained from sine, random, and acoustic testing at system level were improved and completed, using data from OLYMPUS and HIPPARCOS for more reliable statistics and better understanding of the results. Improved data processing was performed to give better results for sine levels near the satellite first resonant frequency and to derive specifications for random testing in the form of continuous functions of mass providing an extrapolation for heavy equipment items. The specifications are proposed to update the ESA standard. An extrapolation to Ariane-5 qualification levels was derived.
