摘要

Experiments were carried out to measure the temperature distribution in mercury vapor confined between its liquid evaporating surface and a condensing plane surface. The data presented here clearly exhibit the large temperature jumps at the interface boundaries predicted by theory; jumps as large as almost 50 percent of the applied temperature difference have so far been observed. These results, therefore, settle one of the most controversial issues in this area.
