Asymptotic Analysis of a Class of Nonlinear Hyperbolic Equations

An asymptotic theory is presented for a class of initial boundary value problems for weakly nonlinear wave equations with an application to a model of the galloping oscillations of overhead transmission lines. The weakly semilinear telegraph equations, asymptotic theory and application are also discussed. The asymptotics for the galloping oscillations of overhead transmission lines are examined and approximations are given. Its validity is demonstrated.
