Technology Utilization Network System (TUNS). Phase 2, release 1: Functional requirements document

The Technology Utilization Network System (TUNS), providing NASA with the benefits of current office automation technology, enables NASA users quickly and efficiently to capture, evaluate and disseminate the new technology which NASA and others under Research and Development contracts to NASA develop. TUNS provides advanced automation tools and network communications to the Technology Utilization Program and enables users to collect new technology data, organize it, file it, and retrieve it for efficient use. Phase I implemented a PC based system capable of operating either on a local area network or on a stand-alone workstation. This phase automated the New Technology Administration and Management, and provided both office automation packages and Orientation and Training Functions. Phase II will provide centrally maintained database information, as well as automate the Industrial Application Center (IAC) interface and other remaining functions. Phase II, divided into Release I and Release II, will connect the local area networks and stand-alone workstations with the central computer through accompanying software enhancements providing additional capabilities. Release I of Phase II will contain the following functions: New Technology Report, NTR evaluation form, contract/grant, contract/grant report, organization database, technical transfer agent database, TU project management (site), TU program management (HQ), office automation training, TUNS system training, engineering graphics, desktop publishing, TU projects, NASA Organization Directory, central databases, and separation of TUO and IAC functions.
