Notes and handouts from the 7th Mars Science Working Group Meeting

The notes and handouts from the Mars Science Working Group meeting are presented. An outline of the Mars aeronomy study team's progress report is presented. An overview of the Mars Environmental Survey (MESUR) project is discussed with an emphasis on: (1) mission analysis; (2) Pathfinder flight system; and (3) the status of the Pathfinder Microrover and instruments. Discussions related to the Pathfinder mission center on the MESUR Pathfinder launch period, the benefits of Type 2 trajectories for communications and solar power, and the accuracy and characteristics of potential landing sites. The ability of the Pathfinder mission scheldule to mesh with the MESUR network is outlined. Presentations are made on the status of MESUR/MARSNET coordination activities and the differences in the designs of the probes and their method of getting to Mars, as well as agreements and possible implications of the two studies. The use of Russian small Mars 94 stations on the MESUR-Pathfinder mission is discussed. The status of the MESUR science definition team activities which focus on the criteria for acceptance of the MESUR Pathfinder mission and potential instruments to be included on the mission is discussed.
