Mathematical Morphology as a Tool for Shape Description

Mathematical morphololgy is an approach in image processing based on geometricalconcepts such as transformation groups and metric spaces. As such, it is well suited for the extraction of information about the shape of the various parts in a scene. An overview of some better or less known morphological techniques (for example skeletonization, granulometric analysis) for the description and decomposition of shape is presented.
