This paper discusses the development and transfer of remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) analysis from NASA Ames Research Center and Lewis Research Center and university partners to Robert Mondavi Winery for the detection of vine damage caused by phylloxera infestation. Field, aircraft, and sensing data are being analyzed to detect phylloxera biotype B both before and after visual symptoms an apparent in Napa Valley, California. A GIS is used to understand the spatial and temporal distribution of the phylloxera infestation. Initial results are promising; remotely sensed data were able to provide pre-visual discrimination of phylloxera infestations based on data collected in 1993.
