Computervision's Engineering Data Management (EDM) system was implemented at Martin Marietta Manned Space Systems in a production mode in December, 1993. This paper discusses the project background, the rationale and approach taken to implement the system, the role of EDM in the 'new' engineering environment, and the lessons learned during the implementation process. Additionally the paper discusses the current EDM configuration and workload supported in today's environment. While this paper focuses on EDM, it is written to cover the process of implementing change into a business environment.
