This paper presents a method by which specific runvays were studied by means of the time histories of the response of a simplified simulation of an airplane taxiing along the simulated runways at various speeds. The actual runway profile data which were obtained by surveys at 2-foot intervals were converted to analog signals and recorded on magnetic tape in the form of FM (frequency modulated) signals proportional to the run¬way profile. The EM magnetic tape proved to be a convenient means of providing a repeatable analog signal to represent the runway input to a simulated airplane.
