EXPERIENCE IN THERMAL-VACUUM TESTING EARTH SATELLITES AT GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER

The philosophy used for conducting thermal-vacuum tests of unmanned earth satellites is presented. The application of the philosophy is examined through the results of the thermal-vacuum tests of three unmanned spacecraft. These results are summa¬rized and discussed with respect to prototype and flight unit spacecraft, hot and cold environments, and kinds and frequency of failures. Brief commentaries on the space performance of the spacecraft are included.
