Analysis and experimental investigations of several operating modes of manual attitude control systems were conducted to: (1) define parameters critical to system performance;(2) find optimum values of these parameters;and (3) provide comparative performance data among the various control modes.nRepresentative attitude control maneuvers were performed by experienced pilots in a fixed-base, spacecraft simulator. Studies were conducted concerning: (1) parameter optimization of a single-pulse mode of control;(2) parameter optimization of a repeated-pulse mode of control;(3) system performance trends as a function of the ratio between the level of control system torque and the amplitude level of disturbance torques;and (4) comparative evaluations of five types of manual control modes.
