EFFECT OF BANDWIDTH AND CENTRE FREQUENCY ON THE THRESHOLD BEHAVIOUR OF A PULSE AVERAGING DISCRIMINATOR

This paper presents the results of some experiments to determine the threshold behaviour of a pulse averaging discriminator as a function of frequency and bandwidth. The measurements show that for large ratios of carrier bandwidth to centre frequency the threshold signal to noise ratio increases very sharply from a minimum at midband to a high value at the lower band edge. The mechanism causing threshold is discussed.
