Report on evaluation of intercomparison survey of XRF laboratories

This document summarizes the results of the worldwide intercomparison survey of XRF laboratories performed by the IAEA's Seibersdorf Laboratories, Austria in 1997-1998. The intercomparison survey included the following components: completion of questionnaires; performance test of XRF setup; evaluation of test XRF spectra by using spectrum analysis procedures available at the laboratories; analysis of intercomparison samples, including aluminium foil, water sample, geological and biological materials. Through an extensive search carried out by the Instrumentation Unit, 101 XRF laboratories were identified in both developing and developed Member States, and invited to the intercomparison survey in May 1997. 45 laboratories accepted the invitation and received the intercomparison materials, 29 laboratories returned the completed questionnaires, 7 laboratories performed test of their XRF setups and submitted the relevant reports, and 19 laboratories performed performed both the evaluation of XRF spectra and the analysis of intercomparison samples, and reported the results to the IAEA before the end of August 1998. In this report the results obtained for the test XRF spectra and for the analysis of the intercomparison samples are compiled and evaluated. 6 refs, 18 tabs
