This document highlights the DISCOM's Distance computing and communication team211u001eactivities at the 1998 Supercomputing conference in Orlando, Florida. This 211u001econference is sponsored by the IEEE and ACM. Sandia National Laboratories, 211u001eLawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and Los Alamos National Laboratory have 211u001eparticipated in this conference for ten years. For the last three years, the 211u001ethree laboratories have a joint booth at the conference under the DOE's ASCI, 211u001eAccelerated Strategic Computing Initiatives. The DISCOM communication team uses 211u001ethe forum to demonstrate and focus communications and networking developments. At 211u001eSC & DISCOM demonstrated the capabilities of Dense Wave Division Multiplexing. We 211u001eexhibited an OC48 ATM encryptor. We also coordinated the other networking 211u001eactivities within the booth. This paper documents those accomplishments, 211u001ediscusses the details of their implementation, and describes how these 211u001edemonstrations support overall strategies in ATM networking.
