摘要

Kaiser Engineers' basic design approach groups all nuclear and related equipment required for safe shutdown of the reactor within a single structure, capable of with¬standing a major earthquake without suf-fering impairment of building or equip¬ment safety functions. The single struc¬ture in this unitized concept consists of a concrete reactor containment vessel sur¬rounded by and joined to a peripheral structure which houses the related safety and operating equipment. This assembly is mounted on a substantial common foundation. The combined structure can be designed to withstand the maximum level of seismic disturbance considered.
