摘要

Pressure welding is a solid state welding technique where the weld is made by applying heat and pressure to the metals being joined. The pressure is high enough to mate the weld surfaces, but the metals are constrained so that no general deformation occurs. Elevated temperatures improve welding by increasing the ductility of the metals and by allowing dispersion of interfacial contamination by diffusion or reaction.nFour dissimilar metal combinations were welded in this investigation: iron-copper, iron-aluminum, beryllium-aluminum, and beryllium-copper. Welds were made with sanded surfaces and with oxidized surfaces. Aluminum, copper, and iron were oxidized by heating the metals in air until about 800 A of oxide was formed. Beryllium was dipped in a passivating bath to produce a protective layer about 100 A thick.
