CALCULATION OF EFFECTIVE MULTIPLICATION FACTORS IN D.M.T.R. WITH BORON LOADING IN FUEL ELEMENTS

Development of the Materials Testing Reactor at Dounreay has centred on increase of the fast and thermal fluxes made available to experimenters. Little has been done to investigate control of the flux distribution either during a single cycle or from one cycle to another, though restriction to a fixed loading pattern in the core was a step in this direction.nVariation of flux distribution can be attributed to movement of the reactor control system so that partial removal of this system could be shown to be advantageous both in decreasing the flux variation and in the provision of additional space for irradiation experiments.
