PACIFIC NORTHWEST LABORATORY ANNUAL REPORT FOR 1970 TO THE USAEC DIVISION OF BIOLOGY AND MEDICINE VOLUMEⅠLIFE SCIENCES PART 2 ECOLOGICAL SCIENCES
This document is part of the twentieth annual report on the life sciences at Hanford, written for the AEC Division of Biology and Medicine (DBM). It is the third annual report exclusively concerned with environmental biology. As such, it reflects the principal efforts of the staff of Ecosystems Department and others contributing to depart¬mental programs during the past year.nMany of the goals set forth in the 1968 "Master Plan for Bioen-vironmental Research at Pacific Northwest Laboratory" have been realized, and we have now commenced studies on modulation of natural ecosystems. Ecosystems Department continued its collaborative effort with other departments, on a strong multidisciplinary basis. Mathe¬matical analysis has been applied extensively--to sampling strategies, to statistical control and to simulation models for the cycling of radioelements, pesticides, and other organic residues, in several kinds of natural systems.
