CALIBRATION OF DISPLACEMENT TRANSDUCERS

Displacement transducers can make a vital contribution to precision gaging if the relationship between actual displacement and indicated displacement can be accurately determined and maintained. Methods and equipment which are adequate for calibrating a single transducer may, because of manpower requirements, be unsuitable for calibrating multi-probe gaging systems em¬ploying many transducers. The basic methods and equipment utilized by the Y-12 PI ant(a) for calibration of linear displacement transducers employing linear variable differential transformers are discussed. Modifications and improvements which have been implemented to reduce the time required for calibrating multi-probe gaging systems are also presented.
