This report describes a high voltage double pulse system which was used to determine switching mechanisms of threshold switching semiconductors. This apparatus is capable to supplying two consecutive voltage pulses of positive or negative polarity to a sample. The voltage can be safely raised to 1 kilovolt without damaging the high voltage transistors. The rise and fall times of the pulses are less than 10 micro-seconds if the resistive load is less than 20 kilo-ohms. The fall time increases with increasing load resistance. The width of the first pulse can be chosen by an external capacitor. The second voltage pulse remains on until the current through the sample exceeds a preselected value or the pulse is manually turned off.
