摘要

Since pertinent information concerning the deformation history of a material is stored in its current structure, an attempt has been made to determine the number of state variables necessary to uniquely describe the material's present condition. An experimental program has been carried out to determine the number of state variables which is required to describe the tensile test, cyclic, and creep behavior of 304 stainless steel at elevated temperature. Tests have been conducted at 300 exp 0 C and 560 exp 0 C which correspond to homologous temperatures of exp 1 / sub 3 and exp 1 / sub 2 , respectively. The experiments consisted of subjecting samples to deformation histories during which the mode of deformation was changed so that two material responses could be measured for the same state of the material. Results strongly suggest that at least two state variables are necessary. (ERA citation 02:022827)
