Survey of Applied and Computational Mathematics at LLL.

摘要

A summary of current activities in applied and computational mathematics at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory is given. It is evident from the survey that there is a very broad spectrum of research and development in this area of mathematics. However,only a small percentage of the total effort is directly involved with fundamental research. The Laboratory is advised to adopt a formal policy to establish and support a research program in applied and computational mathematics. Coordination of related efforts is needed,and steps toward this are recommended. In addition, a study of interactions between mathematical methods and computer architectures is necessary for the Laboratory's ever-increasing requirement for computational capability. 5figures, 3tables.
