The effect of a static magnetic field and a resonant microwave field on the intensity and polarization of the 420mm emission of self trapped excitions (STE) perturbed by sodium impurity in CsI:Na was measured from 1,3K up to 50K. A model to explain the formation of the perturbed STE from the tunnelling recombination of I sub(2) sup(-) molecules and Na sup(0) defects in proposed. The estimated tunnelling probabilites to singlet and triplet states of the perturbed STE are respectively W sub(S) sup(-1) = 1.2ms and W sub(T) sup(-1) = 7.0ms. (Atomindex citation 10:422475)
