Solar Energy Potential for Residential Water Heating and Space Heating in the 12TH Congressional District of Pennsylvania. Analysis Memorandum

A detailed analysis of solar energy potential for residential space heating and water heating was performed for the 12th Congressional District of Pennsylvania. The analysis reflects local fuel prices, anticipated price escalations, climatic conditions (including the level of solar energy), building characteristics and installed solar costs. The results of the analysis indicate that solar systems are not cost competitive with conventional systems available in the District except under special circumstances. Solar systems could become marginally competitive against electric resistance units in the next few years if installed system costs were to become substantially lower than presently anticipated.
