PROGRAM DESCRIPTION AN INVESTIGATION OF BLOWDOWN HEAT TRANSFER AND HYDRAULICS

A program is proponed to experimentally determine blowdown heat transfer in a BUR fuel assembly and the fluid behavior within the vessel and piping during blowdown. This will be done using a full length, electrically heated, 40-rod bundle installed in a tall vessel vertically equivalent to a full-scale BUR and sized to give fluid and steam inventories scaled to those of a BUR. A two-loon system well be used. The blowdown from one of these loops well be carried out at scaled values to match the denressurization rates and discharge coefficients to be expected in a fun-scale reactor. Transient temperature and pressure response data within the simulated fuel assem¬bly well be determined at initial power levels typical of current BUR designs.
