Study of the Phase Diagram of the Calcium Chloride/Calcium System by DTA

The system calcium-chloride-calcium was investigated by a differential thermal analysis technique such that during the measurements equilibrium was always reached. The temperature and the composition of the eutectic; the temperature of the monotectic; and the salt-rich monotectic composition were determined with good precision. These results are compared with those obtained by other authors. Finally, a cryoscopic study was also carried out of the system rich in CaCl sub 2 in order to establish i (the van's Hoff number) as a function of Ca concentration, for small concentrations of this metal. The structure of CaCl sub 2 -Ca solutions that agrees best with the finding is proposed. 14 refs., 5 figs., 2 tabs. (ERA citation 10:044795)
