Preparation, Heat Treatment, and Mechanical Properties of the Uranium-5 Weight Percent Chromium Eutectic Alloy

The eutectic alloy of uranium-5 wt % chromium (U-5Cr) was prepared from high-purity materials and cast into 1-in.-thick ingots. This material was given several simple heat treatments, the mechanical properties of these heat-treated samples were determined; and the microstructure was examined. Some data on the melting point and transformation temperatures were obtained. (ERA citation 06:002617)
