Virtual Disks: Sharing Large Disks Between Computers

Four independent PDP-11 computer systems were interfaced to a 300-Mb disk with a four-ported controller. Access to the disk is handled by the concept of virtual disks. This technique allows the four computers to share the same disk without experiencing the serious problems that arise from concurrent, unrestrained access to the same disk file. Although the system is operating successfully, enhancements will be made to the system to improve its utility and security. 1 figure. (ERA citation 06:001773)
