Concerning the research and development program MYRIA-WIRELESS-COMMUNICATION, Part 1, a feasability study was carried out to analyse, whether there is the practicability of wireless information transmitting and receiving between surface and underground stations by means of electromagnetic ELF-waves. For this purpose primary and orientative measurements in mines together with theoretical investigations have been made. The rates of the magnetic field strenghts have been computed as a function of range with different parameters for several types of antennas. One transmitting station and two mobile receiving sets have been developed. The electromagnetic noise and the propagation of ELF-waves in underground mines have been experimentally studied and analyzed. The results of the theoretical and experimental investigations underline the practicability of a wireless information transmission system in mines using frequencies below 300 Hz. It is recommended to continue this program. (ERA citation 08:008158)
