A series of chalk samples from the cretaceous formation overlying the Erslev salt dome have been studied in order to establish permeabilities, porosities, dispersion-, diffusion-, and sorption characteristics of the chalk, Predominantly the investigations have been carried out by application of a liquid chromatographic technique. The chalk was found to be porous (epsilon approximately 0.4), however, of rather low permeability (k approximately 10 exp -7 cm/sec). It was found that the material exhibits a retarding effect on the migration of cationic species as Cs exp + , Sr exp 2+ , Co exp 2+ , and Eu exp 3+ , whereas anionic species as Cl exp - and TcO exp -4 move with the water front.
