An investigation of the stability and the dynamic response behavior of the proposed vertical axis wind turbine LDB-125 has been performed. Because the LDB-rotor imposes many new and unconventional features, like double L-blades, inclined tower, rotating base, extensive use of guy wired etc, it was decided to perform a thorough dynamic response and stability analysis using a rather complex model of calculation in order to minimize the risk of neglecting significant physical effects. It has been shown, that the LDB-125 rotor has no instabilities or dangerous resonance regions in the normal operating range of rotational velocity. Compared to conventional Darrieus rotors, the LDB concept seems to be very favorable from a structural dynamic point of view. Care must be taken to maintain sufficiently high stiffness in the radial beams of the rotating concrete base structure as well as in the roller bearing system. In this early phase of the project, of course some assumptions concerning the construction details had to be made because drawings are not yet available. It is therefore extremely important to follow up with calculations during the construction phase and continuously verify - and if necessary, correct the design. (ERA citation 08:043716)
