Research accomplishments during the report period include the following: development of a mathematical model for a linear nonequilibrium chromatographic reactor with a first-order chemical reaction; development of a separation factor method for the analysis of ideal binary mixtures in gas-solid adsorption; applications of ideal adsorbed solution theory to the adsorption of binary mixtures of ethane and acetylene on activated carbon; studies of the adsorption isotherms and the isosteric heats of adsorption of ethane, propane, and n-butane on polystyrene at 0, 25, and 30 exp 0 C; and studies of the adsorption of binary mixtures of n-butane and propane on polystyrene at 0 and 25 exp 0 C; studies of the adsorption isotherms of other gases on polystyrene at 0, 25, and 30 exp 0 C; and preparation of a bibliography of experimental data and theoretical treatments of dynamic adsorption of multicomponent mixtures.
