Results of EDF/Framatome Underclad Crack-Detection Methods. Final Report

In 1978 underclad defects were deteced, in FRANCE, in the base metal of reactor vessel nozzles and steam generator tube sheets. EDF and FRAMATOME then developed examination methods aimed at detecting these cracks in shop and on site: manual and automatic ultrasonic examination of vessel nozzles (70 exp 0 inclined longitudinal waves), and automatic Eddy Current examination of steam generator tube sheets. Studies are still going on to improve indication characterization and determine crack height. (ERA citation 08:020371)
