Capillary Supercritical Fluid Chromatography of Polycyclic Aromatic Compounds

The use of modifiers in supercritical n-pentane for the analysis of high molecular weight PAH is described. Density measurements were taken of the n-pentane/modifier supercritical fluid mixtures in order to empirically establish the pressure versus density isotherms of these mixed supercritical fluids. The effects of these mixed phases on retention of PAH solutes were then examined and compared. Finally, the ability of SFC to analyze real samples of high molecular weight PAH is shown.
